Farewell, Edinburgh

Since I have a bit of time – roughly seven hours to be exact – I felt it a good opportunity to start work on this, the penultimate blog. There really isn’t much more to say as far as adventures go.  For all intents and purposes my time for new experiences came to a close … Continue reading Farewell, Edinburgh →

Like A King

Well... now that was a nice little break.  It feels like ages since I've put pen to pap- er... fingers to the keyboard.  It feels even more strange that I have less than a month here in Europe.  These last few months have been moving at a million miles an hour, yet it still feels … Continue reading Like A King →

The World Between Spain and Me

Welcome welcome one and all to my account of one of the most eventful, exhausting, and outgoing trips of my entire life - my journey to SPAIN! I came to the realization on day 8 that it would be an insane amount of effort to write about every little detail that occurred during each day … Continue reading The World Between Spain and Me →

The Best Weekend of My Entire Life

The title says it all really.  This past weekend - March 24-26 - may very well have been the best weekend in my entire life.  For this was when the API group was set to tour the Scottish Highlands.  Castles, the Isle of Skye, Loch Ness ... the list goes on and on and on. … Continue reading The Best Weekend of My Entire Life →

Post Schedule

Posts will be released as reason and time constraints dictate.  While I stuck to a schedule during my original posts my life has come to change drastically.  As such, the schedule will be removed so as to allow for a leniency that will allow for better, more thoughtful postings.

The last day I was in San Sebastián, I was walking along the pier looking out into the bay. The hour was growing late, and I vaguely remember I was finishing up an ice cream cone after sitting in the nearby shopping by promenade having some street food, watching the locals and tourists alike enjoy the beautiful Spring evening.
“You look like someone who is a long way from home and isn’t entirely sure why they are here.” Elliot heard from the corner of the church. He turned to face a woman, shorter in stature, ensconced in a dark hijab, her lighter olive brown complexion and accent giving away a life lived in the Middle East - her age suggesting that she had grown up through the turmoil of the past 20 years.
Humid air pulled Elliots’ sweatshirt down against his body. His shoes felt heavy against the old cobbled road. Down the alley he could hear sounds of the bars opening up for the evening - the chatter of tourists rising in a language he did not understand.
“You see, Elliot, all these people here, all these people are here looking for something. Some seek a simple photo they can send to their social medias for... well... being social. Others come simply come because of the historical significance. A few are likely locals out to people-watch. But mostly, the people here are searching for the affirmation that their lives have meaning, purpose; that everything is governed on the basis of good will and benevolence.”
Rain beaded down the sides of Elliot’s jacket as he stood at the steps of the church. Not by choice, he noted, feeling the saturated wool from his fingerless gloves; his fingers numb and unresponsive to the breath he saw fade away into clouds down the street. His head bowed low in the shame of accepting such charity, he silently stepped up and through the old oak doors into silence permeated only by the flickering crackle of prayer candles that lit the walkway into the sanctum.
Thanks for the memories Pedey. Enjoy retirement!
